Former Mayor raises money for charities

The former Mayor of Warrington is aiding local charities with around £15,000 after fundraising efforts.

Cllr Les Morgan – whose Mayoral year was 2017-18 – has now officially distributed funds to his chosen charities at a small event at Warrington Town Hall.

The former Mayor’s contribution was achieved through a range of successful fundraising events over the last 12 months.

Representatives of his chosen charities arrived at the Town Hall on Tuesday 29 May to meet the former Mayor and receive their cheques.

Cllr Les Morgan said: “I have had a very successful fundraising year, and it’s all down to the generosity of people here in Warrington, as well as local businesses who worked closely with me through the council. Their support will really benefit the fabulous charities who work tirelessly to help changes people’s lives every day.

“It was always my ambition to raise as much as I could and I am so proud that, through a range of fundraising events, we were able to achieve so much. I’ve enjoyed meeting representatives of my chosen charities to officially present their cheques.”

Warrington Foodbank, Warrington MS Society, Warrington Street Pastors and PAPYRUS each received around £3,600.

Warrington Street Pastors welcomed the generous amount raised for them by Cllr Morgan. They said it will go towards running projects such as their ‘Safe Zone’ initiative.

Warrington MS Society thanked Cllr Morgan for his support, saying it contributes greatly to their work, assisting local people and their families who suffer with MS.

PAPYRUS work with young people to prevent suicide. Their national HOPEline receives 70,000 calls, texts and emails each year. They said the amazing fundraising undertaken by Cllr Morgan will help pay for 717 calls, texts or emails, as well as raising vital awareness to help to save young lives.

Warrington Foodbank have thanked the former Mayor for his fundraising efforts, saying the money will help them to continue to support local families when they need it most.
